Senior Backend Engineer

Built the company CRM from scratch, replacing Zoho for every department, and the backend of an app that processes heart-rate data from an ear-worn wearable.

Overview

Seven years as the backend engineer of a biomedical technology company, where I built internal platforms used every day by the whole company, services connected to the software on the machines sold to customers, and the backend of a health app.

Company CRM (replaced Zoho)

Built from scratch and used by about 15 people across every department. Customer records, purchase offers, automatic emails for birthdays, deadlines and follow-ups, email and SMS campaigns, and ads shown inside the company's own software. It also sent customer and machine data directly to the accounting software.

Machine configuration from the CRM

Each machine sold was paired with its customer in the CRM, which then configured the C++ software running on it, with different features and buttons depending on the model purchased, account creation and remote analysis runs. Work that used to require technical staff became simple enough to be handed over to the marketing team.

Wearable data backend (Performance project)

Spring Boot server processing RR intervals (the time between heartbeats) sent by an ear-worn wearable, plus accounts and everything the mobile app needed. Built for professional athletes, it became the pilot for the company's later app for all patients.

Patient area and security

Reserved area for patients, OAuth 2.0 authentication, and resilience patterns (timeouts, retries, circuit breakers) for services running in production.

Key points

  • Replaced Zoho with an in-house CRM (~15 users, all departments)
  • Machine–customer pairing and remote configuration of the machine software
  • Automated emails, SMS campaigns and in-software ads
  • Data sent directly to accounting software
  • Heart-rate (RR) data processing for a wearable
  • Patient reserved area with OAuth 2.0

Apps built on the backend I worked on

I did not build the apps themselves. I worked on the server side they rely on.
